Self Discovery

Intro

Misunderstanding is a form of lying in this perplexed world.

Danger is an obstacle in a path towards a given goal.
In our well ordered times there are few dangers that threaten the basic laws of living:
Health, survival, propagation of the species, hunger and thirst,
which is why secondary dangers, i.e., dignity, respect, scholarship take on primary prominence.
In this observation the unconditioned reflex reaction to danger works beautifully.

Self-Discovery.

Dreams

You want a big red sun... Out on a deep blue sea...

You want a big red sun, out on a deep blue sea,
you want to look from where you can't be found,
you think you're making history.
That's saying something, I'll tell you nothing,
Heavenly, dig your scene.

A perfect state of mind is what we're dying for,
you say you've found a brand new key so you can leave an open door.
That's really something, I'll tell you one thing -
this disease is thrilling me, thrilling me,
killing me.

Our eyes are open,
all lips are sealed,
call information,
I'll be lost in someone else's dream.
Someone else's dreams.

You want a big red sun, out on a deep blue sea,
you want to look from where you can't be found,
you think you're making history.
That's really something, I'll tell you one thing -
this disease is thrilling me, thrilling me,
killing me.

Our eyes are open,
all lips are sealed,
call information,
I'll be lost in someone else's dream.
Someone else's dreams.

Someone else's dreams, someone else's dream.
You want a big red sun, on a deep blue sea,
Mmm yeah...Over there...A deep blue sea...Someone else's dreams.

What makes a human take something so far that there can be only one result. For example it is not only war or bloodlust (something that occurs in a very small group of animal species which includes us humans!) which create death and destruction as we know, but from where does such an emotion stem? This is about the ease with which some of us hand ourselves, completely, over to someone else's trust/guidance. Also, quite often people may be doing good in one area whilst destroying/disturbing something of equal importance.

Fried

Lost your head you'd better watch your feet,
jumped the groove and now you've lost your beat,
no, no, no,
So far away, you're fried away.

Got your sugar when it gets too much,
both hands are moving but you're out of touch,
you're fried away so fire away.
Put your face up to the glass,
throw your head back through the past,
while you're holding on to stars,
you'll fly no place at all.
Oh, oh, oh.

Made in Heaven now you're lost in space,
Whatever happened to that pretty, pretty face, no, no.
You're fried away, you're fried, your fried away.

Put your face up to the glass,
throw your head back through the past,
while you're holding on to stars,
you won't fly no where at all.
Watch the waters leave your shore,
watch your heart fall through the floor,
While you're looking for a hole,
you'll find no place at all.

Put your face up to the glass,
throw your head back through the past,
while you're holding on to stars,
Leave your promises behind...

Watch the water leave your shore,
oh get out of here.

A song to a great friend of mine who used his on herself. So you never want to grow old and leave things behind, let everyone else suffer through your selfishness, all stay as you were. Although we like it, comfort is too much a danger. This girl paid the ultimate price. No matter how attached we are sometimes we have to let go.

Grateful

It's not as if I'm not fucking grateful!

I'll paint a little sky for you, you hide behind a wall that's blue,
Go dig another hole or two, I'm sick and tired of you falling through.
You see what's mine, and lose your mind,
Would you go my way?

And above it all I'm grateful,
Well above it all, I'm grateful.

Got the message from you, after dark,
Watch the streets my love I'll smash your calm.
You say what's yours is mine, I say you lose your mind,
Would you go my way?

And above it all I'm grateful,
Up above it all I'm grateful

When you're lying in too far to find your make-up,
Up above it all, I'm grateful,
All your diving in too hard designed your break up,
Get above it all I'm grateful.
Would you go my way?

How much can you put up with or give to others in your life? This is a song of give and take. I have always felt deeply responsible for my actions, even where I have felt used, revenge is just not my drug. This song is really focused on the 'users of users' if you like - that is, if you give it out then you have got to expect it back, 'cause let me tell you, it's coming to get you for sure. AAARRGGHHH... 'IT'!

Soul Alive

I will be your conscience,
I'll be your desire,
call me in for confidence,
come to me for fire.

I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive.
Give it up.

Sleep beside me golden child,
I'll touch you when you call,
and see you in the dreams you ride,
now tell me all you know.

I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive, soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive.

Trust me with your honey.
'cause I'll love you like my own,
put the crown upon my head,
and I will take you home, take you home.

I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive, soul alive.

I will be your conscience,
I'll be your desire,
call me in for confidence,
come to me for fire, I'll keep.

I will be your conscience.
I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive.
I'll keep your soul alive.

Soul alive.
Soul alive.
Soul alive.
Touch when you call.
You'll tell me all you know.
Ha, Al Capone guns don't hurt you.
Keep your soul alive.
Soul Alive.

Control is the theme here, rather than naivety. I suppose it is similar in some ways to 'GOD' in sentiment but in a more 'normal' everyday way. Not as profound as a godhead... it is amazing what people indulge in. And are some of the most shocking things we read and hear of really just human nature that most people cannot accept?

Heaven

It's your mind you've made up, I steal no fate.
Take some time to face up and I'll give you the truth
you're gonna be somebody.
Watch him waiting, pretty wanting, baying. All you going to do is shout.

I define the motion and the state we're in, that's the shape we're in.
Mix with my devotion, I'll get you under my skin.
You're going to be somebody now.
Watching, waiting, sitting pretty wanting, praying and all I want to do is shout.

Heaven, I'll show you a paradise,
Heaven, I'll lead you through the ice. Shout, shout.

Fate decides the moment, or she'll leave you her scars.
Shape that eye to focus, the future looks hard,
it looks hard but be somebody now.
You're sitting waiting, sitting pretty wanting, praying you'll be somebody. Shout, shout.

Heaven, I'll show you a paradise,
Heaven, I'll lead you through the eyes. Shout, shout.

Heaven.

This is really about decisions/dynamics and how we influence the experiences we find ourselves in. It seems to me that whatever we do, things find their own paths.

My Father's Bride

Your pain, you never let it show,
I couldn't love you more for trying.
And while I take a piece of you,
a little piece of me is dying.
Over the fields I see you run,
Don't wait for me now it's just begun.
I tried everything and I talked for hours.
And now then I'm laying you down in flowers.
You never had and I never took a chance, never took a chance.
But these are the words I longed to say.

She's given everything she can.
but she's holding onto an angel's hand,
here comes the longest lonely night,
help us to catch my father's bride.

(You never let it show)

Your pain, you never let it show,
I couldn't love you more for trying.
And while I take a piece of you,
a little piece of me is dying.
Over the fields I see you run,
Don't wait for me now it's just begun.
These are the words I longed to say.

She's given everything she can.
but she's holding onto an angel's hand,
here comes the longest lonely night,
help us to catch my father's bride.
He's still the bread she hungers for,
his were the only eyes she saw,
his are the words she'll always sing,
He's only hiding in the wings.

He's still the bread she hungers for,
You'll be the flowers in the field,
help us to catch my father's bride.

You're still the bread she hungers for,
you're still the light above the door,
you'll be the flowers in the fields
help us to catch my father's bride.
You're still the bread she hungers for,
yours were the only eyes she saw,
yours are the words she'll always sing,
you're only hiding in the wings - he's only hiding in the wings - you're only...
I never took a chance, he's only hiding in the wings - hiding in the... it's hard.

This is very hard to define ... shall we say it echoed/s a very loud voice inside me at the time of my fathers death and subsequently. There is so much I could say, but that is personal I think, and a little too indulgent for me. I will keep it simple as the lyric itself but these really are the words I wanted to say, not only to my father but also my mother, for whom I prepared a poem to read for them both at his funeral. My father died from cancer and was an incredibly brave man who never complained of his pain. We, the kids, and more importantly my mother -his bride- were the most precious things to him. I can only hope to be half the man he remains to me. I feel I must also add that I have gained an incredible amount from it all. It is so very ironic but seems to be the next step for a man... the King is dead, long live the King.

Candy

There is a figure outside in possession of a two way face,
Gave his head fallen star now the eyes fill an empty place,
When he talks it's like she's spitting out broken glass,
He got a modern script but it's a back street farce,

Candy,
I didn't mean to make you mine,
How much longer can you shine,
You're not the man you used to be.

Took her up to my room, played her some of my favourite songs,
I like to jam all night but lost my rhythm got my steps all wrong, (all wrong),
Just like a mystery tour when she took off the hat
I had to turn the lights down low,
She said listen to me, cause there's something I think you should know,
(oh I know, I'm alone my soul)

Candy,
I didn't mean to make you mine,
How much longer can you shine,
You're not the man you used to be.

But I feel… I'll never hurt you,
Can't I love… I'll never hurt you,
Can I touch… I'll never hurt you,
It's too much… I'll never hurt you,
Sure gone I like it!

This is a matter of sexuality... what am I, where does it all end, etc... tried boys, tried girls... still confused... what if the character then takes the ultimate step?... how long can the charm last... is it easier to be a man or a woman???

The brain is failing.
Misunderstanding is a form of lying in this perplexed world.

The spinal chord is an older and more venerable process than the brain,
saving man in those days when his brain was not developed enough.
When in fact he wasn't yet man.
It sorted and stored synapses and reflexes proven over millions of years,
to be effective in the struggle for survival.
It is, if you will, the inner seat of rational conservatism.

The spinal chord and the autonomous nervous system prepare the student's body,
for heavy, fierce and long fighting for life or death!
The brain has failed him.

Are you one self or many selves? Who, inside yourself, calmly watches you flying into a rage or drifting in ecstasy or capturing an audience? Do you, as so many do, refer to 'a little person who watches' or 'the part of myself that always observes, never participates'? The title is taken from a Soviet sci-fi book I read many years ago. The book is actually the story of a scientist who develops a clone from a 'computer womb'. The title track alludes to the difference between and the physiological effect of, the brain and the spinal chord/cortex under a specific condition... the state of each, the meaning and reaction of each and the relationship between them. It is not a 'chapter' but a 'pre-chapter'. Throughout the book each chapter is preceded by a statement or observation, and, so moved was I by one of these that I had to put it, embrace it in a piece of music. There are many fascinations in this superb book apart from the actual 'story' but this comparison of our two character/ personality producing organs/systems went some way to helping me with a theory I have long discussed and thought about, which is - to be crude/brief - the difference between the outright 'academic intellectual' and the 'aware/intelligent' person. It is a huge and fascinating subject so it is best to stop there and let YOU try to explain and understand for yourselves! The line "misunderstanding is a form of lying in this perplexed world"... was something a friend of mine scribbled on his 2nd year report book whilst we were indulging in a very psychedelic drug... 'nuff said. We all have our very own discoveries to make and the CD is saying that here is what can and will happen. I guess that each piece represents a step of learning and personal growth.
